I periodically connect to the Lab VM from my local Indeni server instance. When I tried to upgrade to the new VPN using the new .ovpn file, I got this error:
Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) ncp-ciphers (2.3.2)
Turns out, the current Ubuntu distro of openvpn doesn't support ncp-ciphers:

The fix was to update my apt source to get a more current version of openvpn, per these instructions:
